At the heart of every art museum is its collection. An essential part of the art curator’s job is to expand on this collection, to deepen and enliven it through new acquisitions. Opinions vary on how to best do this, especially in our times in which societal changes put new demands on what museums are for. What does this mean for the museums’ collecting policies? Through talks with curators and museum directors of leading art museums in the Netherlands you will learn about the importance of collecting for the public and the different ways they go about doing it. This course is organised in close collaboration with the Rembrandt Association, a membership-based organisation that helps museums in the Netherlands acquire, restore and research works of art.
